The national flag of Ireland is the Tricolor of Green, white and Orange, which came into general use during the war of independence (1919-1921). Symbolically the green stands for the Catholics, the orange for the Protestants and white for peace between them. Prior to this date the main symbol of nationalism was a green flag with a golden harp of Brian Boru. |
